Fox Jaws Biography

Born in Barrie, Ontario and borne by an unending desire to create, play, and perform for you, your friends, and your
mother, Fox Jaws have set themselves on a path that might well lead to the demise of their members. But if so, at least it will be for a good cause. Begun many moons ago in the brains of Dan Allen, Brandyn Aikins, and others now lost to the far reaches of the nation, they have constantly evolved, never wanting to let the grass die beneath their feet. A brief and busy year after the independent release of their debut full-length Goodbye Doris, they are steadily becoming a force to be reckoned with in Canadian music.

Goodbye Doris, recorded and co-produced with Ryan Mills (Most Serene Republic, Born Ruffians), has gone on to receive critical acclaim from the likes of NOW Magazine, Two-Way Monologues, Chromewaves.net, Spill Mag, and many others. Perhaps the sweetest of these, however, has come from EXCLAIM: “Fox Jaws are real people ... But what they create is on the verge of brilliance, what they live are lives worth documentation, when they die it sounds amazing, when they breathe it brings the audience to life.

Nonetheless, in the spirit of constant progress, the band is, as always, in the process of writing and recording new material.
Recent departures and arrivals have resulted in a renement of their sound, but the vigorous passion and raw power of live performance remains the mainstay of the Fox Jaws ethos. Whiskey voiced chanteuse Carleigh Aikins, is the broken heart to co-vocalist and guitarist Dan Allen’s driving force. e group is rounded out by guitarist and keyboardist Andrew Shropshire, Brandyn Aikins on the drums, and bassist Evan Rosevear. Together this quintet of long-time friends and listeners have forged a sound that is part wall of noise, part experiment, part rock and roll, and a small part pop implosion (?).

Over the past few years Fox Jaws has had the pleasure and privilege of being featured at Pop Montreal, Canadian Music Week, North by North-East, S.C.E.N.E. Festival, Over the Top Festival, and on the CBC Radio 3 Podcast, as well as sharing the stage with the likes of the Constantines, Wintersleep, Tokyo Police Club and Grizzly Bear. Riding high on the critical success of their debut release and an ever expanding, ever energetic fan base, Fox Jaws continue to follow their plan of playing whenever and wherever they can, while making new friends and creating beautiful music for themselves and for their audiences.
